Forest on fire as they down leaders Wolves

Goals from Kieran Dowell and Ben Osborn secured Nottingham Forest a fine 2-0 win and a first defeat in 14 league matches for runaway Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Forest's win was the first for new manager Aitor Karanka and was even more surprising as they had not won in six league matches, failing to score in their last four.

Wolves still lead the table by nine points, Derby County having been held to a 0-0 draw by League Cup semi-finalists Bristol City on Friday.

"We knew that this day could come. We must improve and have to bounce back immediately from this," admitted Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

"I am responsible maybe for not telling the boys we still have a long way to go. Nobody can relax here."

Elsewhere two of the form teams Aston Villa and Fulham recorded impressive wins, the former beating struggling Barnsley 3-1 and Fulham romping to a 6-0 thrashing of relegation-threatened Burton Albion.

A Scott Hogan double and Conor Hourihane strike against his former club wrapped the points up for Villa inside the opening 20 minutes leaving manager Steve Bruce a very happy man.

"We're in with a shout. We're there or thereabouts and there's a bit of confidence about the lads," Bruce told the BBC.

"All of them who I signed last January, for me, have only just come to terms with it now, what playing for Aston Villa is."

Fulham's thumping victory included a double by much-coveted 17-year-old Ryan Sessegnon, taking his tally to nine in the league this term.

"It's good to extend our good run. My team were focused and concentrated and played good football," said Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic, whose side have won five and drawn the other of their last six league matches.

Victory leaves Fulham just a place outside the play-off places, a point in arrears of Sheffield United who recorded only their second win in 11 matches 2-1 at Norwich City, the hosts showing signs of fatigue after their penalty shootout loss to Chelsea in midweek.

Burton slipped to the bottom of the table as Sunderland gained only their second home win in 24 matches, Joel Asoro scoring a stunning first ever goal for the senior side in a 1-0 win over Hull.

"The goal we scored, I don't think any team I've ever managed have scored a goal as good as that," Black Cats manager Chris Coleman told Sunderland's website.

"It was absolutely fabulous."

Leeds lost further ground on the play-off places despite fighting back to lead Millwall 3-2 after being 2-0 down and having a man sent off for the third game in succession -- Liam Cooper getting a straight red in the first-half.

However, Millwall secured their first away win of the season with two goals in the dying minutes to win 4-3 and extend the hosts winless run to five in all competitions.
