Who's saying what at the World Cup

AFP Sport looks at the best quotes from the fourth day of the World Cup on Sunday, which saw holders Germany stunned by Mexico:

"In the first half we played very badly. We weren't able to impose our usual way of playing, our attacking and passing was not effective. It's disappointing to have lost the first match. It's a situation we're not used to at all."

-- Germany manager Joachim Loew reacts to an opening World Cup defeat to Mexico.

"I don't know if it's the biggest win in Mexico's history but doubtless it is one of the biggest for sure."

-- Mexico goal hero Hirving Lozano, putting his country's 1-0 upset of holders Germany in some context.

"I think there are 16 players (actually 17) who were born in other European countries and not Morocco, so that's a lot of cultures they've come from. It means they can adjust better to playing a European team."

-- Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva, born in France, believes the diverse make-up of Morocco's squad is a help rather than hindrance.

"It's fantastic to be here by the beach, but if we win we'll go back to Moscow. Holidays are for after the World Cup."

-- Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois's reply when asked if his team had made it to the beach in Sochi. The Belgian team hotel is right on the sea front.

"Amilcar was a good friend of mine and he was a very important person in the squad. Of course, he will always be with us."

-- Panama goalkeeper Jaime Penedo has a thought for his former teammate Amilcar Henriquez before the Central Americans make their World Cup debut against Belgium on Monday. Henriquez was a veteran Panamanian international who was murdered last year.
