US lose Nagbe, Steffen to injuries, add 'keeper Klinsmann

Jonathan Klinsmann, son of ex-United States national team coach and retired German star Jurgen Klinsmann, joined the US squad Monday, three days before the Americans face England at Wembley Stadium.

Klinsmann, a 21-year-old goalkeeper for Hertha Berlin, was called upon for the first time after hamstring injuries sidelined US goalkeeper Zack Steffen and American midfielder Darlington Nagbe.

Both were hurt in Major League Soccer playoff matches Sunday, Columbus Crew keeper Steffen aggravating a right hamstring injury and Nagbe straining his left hamstring in Atlanta United's win over New York City FC.

Klinsmann, who played for the US in last year's FIFA Under-20 World Cup, makes his debut with the senior squad at the London training camp ahead of the US team playing World Cup semi-finalists England on Thursday. The US also face four-time World Cup winners Italy on November 20 at Genk, Belgium.
