Papadopoulos returns to Olympiakos to end playing career

Former Greece international defender Avraam Papadopoulos has returned to his previous club Olympiakos where he will end his playing career, the Greek Super League outfit announced on Monday.

Papadopoulos, 34, will play the rest of the season for the Piraeus side after playing for the club from 2008 to 2014 serving as captain and leading the team to five league titles and winning three Greek Cups.

Last year Papadopoulos was handed a 30-month suspended sentence by an Athens court for illegally betting on matches and was one of 58 people punished for their roles in the "Koriopolis" match-fixing scandal in 2011.

Also in 2018 Papadopoulos, while playing for most recent side Brisbane Roar was suspended for seven games in the Australian A-League after spitting at an opponent.

Papadopoulos began his career with Aris Thessaloniki before featuring for Japan's Jubilo Iwata, China's Shanghai Shenhua and Turkey's Trabzonspor.

He won 37 caps for Greece from 2008 to 2014.
