Morelos hits four as Rangers reach Scottish Cup quarters

Alfredo Morelos scored four goals as Rangers thrashed Kilmarnock 5-0 to reach the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Victory sets up a meeting with Aberdeen in the last eight for Steven Gerrard's men and Rangers will be hoping to keep Morelos on the pitch as the Colombian again underlined his importance when not suspended.

Morelos has been sent off four times this season and in all three previous meetings against Aberdeen.

Rangers' top scorer is currently serving a three-game ban in the league and was badly missed in a 0-0 draw at home to St Johnstone on Saturday that saw his side slip eight points behind Celtic in the title race.

Restored to the starting line-up, Morelos took just seven minutes to open the scoring from Daniel Candeias's cross.

Kilmarnock's task got even harder on 25 minutes when goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was dismissed for an off-the-ball clash with Glen Kamara as the pair awaited the delivery of a corner.

Morelos doubled his tally for the night from another Candeias cross in first-half stoppage time.

Substitute Andy Halliday fired home a third from 15 yards out on 73 minutes, before Morelos added two more in the final stages to take his tally for the season to 27.
