Forest close in on playoffs after beating Derby

Nottingham Forest moved to within three points of the playoff positions in the Championship after beating local rivals Derby County 1-0 at the City Ground on Monday.

Yohan Benalouane tapped home the winning goal just 74 seconds into what is called the "Brian Clough Derby" -- due to both teams being managed by the charismatic two-time European Cup winner -- to put Martin O'Neill's side into eighth place on 50 points, three behind sixth-placed Bristol City.

Forest are just a point behind Derby, who are winless in three matches after losing their last two, thanks to defender Benalouane's early strike.

Frank Lampard's Derby have failed to win since the start of 2019 and only managed six attempts on goal in a fiery encounter.

Forest meanwhile have seen an upturn in form since O'Neill, who won both of those European Cups as a player with Forest under Clough, arrived as coach in mid-January and are unbeaten in their last four league matches.
