Former United States, Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is coming out of his brief retirement to take over net-minding duties for Memphis 901 FC, the United Soccer League team he co-owns.

"Since my retirement in October, my obsession for football has grown," the 40-year-old Howard said in a statement. "The desire to win continues to drive me. I love to play and I love to compete, this gives me the opportunity to do both."

Howard, who spent his fourth and final Major League Soccer season with the Colorado Rapids in 2019, began his involvement with Memphis 901 as a partial owner. In January it was announced he would be sporting director at the second-tier club, a role he will continue.

Howard is the most-capped goalkeeper in US national team history with 121 appearances. That included starting roles at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
