Football: Moyes starts with Zaha in Community Shield

English winger Wilfried Zaha was handed his official Manchester United debut by new manager David Moyes in the Community Shield against Wigan Athletic at Wembley on Sunday.

Zaha, who arrived from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £15 million ($22.7 million, 17.6 million euros) during the close season, looked set to line up on the right wing for the Premier League champions.

In total, Moyes made seven changes to the team fielded by Alex Ferguson in his final game as United manager, a madcap 5-5 draw at West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the league season in May.

Phil Jones will partner Nemanja Vidic in central defence, with veteran Ryan Giggs joined in midfield by Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley, while last season's top scorer Robin van Persie leads the attack.

Unsettled striker Wayne Rooney, the subject of two failed bids from Chelsea in recent weeks, was left out of the squad as he is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Wigan manager Owen Coyle gave a debut to Irish international winger James McClean, who joined the FA Cup winners from Sunderland earlier this week.

It was the only change to the team that won 4-0 at Barnsley in Wigan's opening Championship game last weekend.
