Aussie 'keeper Ryan to undergo knee surgery

Valencia and Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will have surgery on a meniscus injury in his right knee on Monday, the Spanish club have announced.

"After ending the game against Deportivo la Coruna with some pain, Mathew Ryan will on Monday go under the knife to undergo an arthroscopy due to a medial meniscopathy in his right knee," Valencia said in a statement on their website.

"About to undergo arthroscope to fix meniscus. With some luck be back fit in 4 weeks. Look forward to coming back stronger," Ryan posted on his official Twitter account.

Ryan will miss Australia's World Cup qualifiers at home against Bangladesh on Thursday and away to Tajikistan on September 8.

And he is also expected to miss Valencia's first two Champions League matches at home to Zenit St Petersburg and away to Lyon.
