Palermo get stadium ban

Serie A strugglers Palermo were on Tuesday handed a one-match stadium ban by the Italian football league for crowd trouble during last weekend's game against Lazio.

Palermo are sitting in the relegation zone, with irate fans throwing firecrackers onto the pitch, causing two stoppages, in a 3-0 defeat to Lazio on Sunday.

The ban will cover Palermo's next home game on April 20 against Atalanta.

Referee Andrea Gervasoni first stopped the match after 24 minutes. The trouble continued in the second half with another firecracker exploding near Lazio striker Antonio Candreva, resulting in a five-minute stoppage.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini on Monday made his eighth coaching change of the season with Davide Ballardini returning to replace sacked Walter Novellino.

Ballardini had himself been sacked in January after two months in the job.
