Fornaroli brace fires Melbourne City into semis

Uruguyan goal machine Bruno Fornaroli scored a superb double Sunday as Melbourne City cruised past Perth Glory into the A-League semi-finals.

His spectacular first-half bicycyle kick put City in total charge of the second elimination final.

And the league's leading scorer topped that with a classic free kick from well outside the box in the 76th minute -- his 25th goal from 28 matches this season.

Perth struggled all night to build any pressure on the home side and earned only a pile of yellow cards for their muscular efforts.

But they could not knock City off their stride, with Anthony Caceres and Aaron Mooy dominant in midfield.

City's reward is a semi-final next Friday against Adelaide United, who lifted the Premier's Plate at the top of the A-League standings.

Brisbane Roar won the first elimination final on Friday by downing Melbourne Victory 2-1 and now tackle runners-up Western Syndey Wanderers.

John Aloisi's side travel to Sydney's Pirtek Stadium on Saturday full of confidence after twice beating Tony Popovic's Wanderers in the regular season.
