French Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier said on Thursday that captain Vitorino Hilton has signed a one-year contract extension.

The 38-year-old Brazilian defender is a vital part of the 2012 champions' team having played 35 league matches this season.

Hilton joined the club from Marseille in 2011, having first come to France in 2004, joining Bastia on loan from his then Swiss employers Servette.

He began his career at Chapecoense in his homeland.
