Chievo sack coach Maran after Roma defeat

Serie A strugglers Chievo on Sunday sacked coach Rolando Maran after a 4-1 defeat to AS Roma leaves the side from Verona two points above the drop zone.

Maran -- who took over in October 2014 with his contract due to expire in June -- has been replaced by youth team coach Lorenzo D'Anna with just three games left this season.

Chievo have won just two games and picked up 10 points in 2018 and will drop into the bottom three if SPAL beat Verona later on Sunday.

Roma dominated the side from Verona despite being a man down after Juan Jesus saw red 10 minutes into the second half in the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, adding two more goals with Edin Dzeko completing a brace.

Former Chievo defender D'Anna, 46, played 161 times for the club in Serie A and also captained the side between 1994 and 2007.

Maran had helped Chievo avoid relegation three times with the club finishing ninth in Serie A in the 2016-2016 season, and 14th last season.
