A first-half goal from Cyriel Dessers proved enough for Rangers to see off Motherwell 1-0 but the hosts were still met with boos at the full-time whistle at Ibrox on Sunday.

Dessers netted against the run of play in the 24th minute when he diverted Rabbi Matondo's strike past Liam Kelly.

Victory lifted Michael Beale's men to third in the Scottish Premiership table and within four points of leaders Celtic.

But after an impressive 1-0 win over Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday, Rangers were sluggish on their return to domestic action.

Motherwell had not lost in eight away matches since Stuart Kettlewell took charge in February.

The visitors came close to snatching a point through Oli Shaw and Blair Spittal late on.

The win also came at a cost for Rangers as Matondo went off to add to a mounting injury list.

"They say it's a good sign when you win when you're not playing well," said Beale.

"I'm not taking much comfort from that. That performance concerned me."

At the other end of the table, Aberdeen got their first league win of the season with a 4-0 thrashing of Ross County.

Bojan Miovski struck twice, while Luis Lopes and Jamie McGrath were also on target for the Dons, who remain second bottom but close to within two points of fifth.
