Arrasate sacked by Real Sociedad

La Liga strugglers Real Sociedad have sacked coach Jagoba Arrasate after a disappointing start to the campaign which has left the Basque side in the relegation zone.

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes and Alejandro Sabella, who led Argentina to the World Cup final, are reported to be among the candidates to replace the 36-year-old.

"Real Sociedad have decided to relieve Jagoba Arrasate of his duties as first-team coach," said a statement on the club's website.

"Coaches Txema Lumbreras and Bittor Alkiza have also been relieved of their duties as assistant coaches."

Arrasate was handed his first senior coaching post at the start of last season, but after a promising start as they qualified for the Champions League group stage he failed to live up to expectations as they crashed out of Europe and finished seventh in La Liga.

An embarrassing early Europa League exit to Russian side FK Krasnodar followed in August and the final straw for the San Sebastian side's board came in Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Malaga which left them with just one win from their opening 10 league games.
