English Championship club Charlton hired former Belgium striker Bob Peeters as their new manager on Tuesday.

Peeters replaces Jose Riga, who parted company with the south London side at the end of the season after helping them avoid relegation to the third tier.

Peeters has previously managed Cercle Brugge and Gent and arrives in England fresh from keeping Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian top-flight.

The 40-year-old scored four goals in 13 appearances for Belgium, with his playing career taking in the likes of Roda JC, Vitesse Arnhem and Genk.

He also has prior experience of life in England after a spell playing for Charlton's local rivals Millwall from 2003 to 2005.

Peeters will be assisted by Charlton's former academy manager Damien Matthew, with ex-assistant boss Alex Dyer leaving the club.
