Ings brace gets Burnley off bottom

Danny Ings's quickfire brace earned Burnley a 2-1 win at Stoke City on Saturday that saw the promoted club climb off the foot of the Premier League table.

Sean Dyche's side had claimed their first victory of the season by beating Hull City 1-0 prior to the international break and they made it two wins in two games thanks to Ings's first-half double.

The England Under-21 striker struck in the 12th and 13th minutes at the Britannia Stadium and Burnley held on for victory despite Jon Walters reducing the arrears in the 32nd minute.

The win took Burnley above Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace and left the Lancashire club level on points with fourth-from-bottom Leicester City, while Stoke slipped one place to 10th.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes made two changes to the team that had won 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur in their previous outing, with Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa coming in for injured duo Marc Wilson and Erik Pieters.

Dyche, meanwhile, drafted Michael Kightly into the starting XI against his old club to replace injury victim Scott Arfield.

Burnley took the lead when Ings tapped in from close range after Ashley Barnes's left-wing cross was parried by Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Kightly teed up Ings for the visitors' second less than two minutes later, motoring down the left and sending in an inviting low cross that the 22-year-old converted from close range.

Republic of Ireland international Walters brought Stoke back into the game 13 minutes before the interval when he met Bojan Krkic's cross with a flying header.

But Burnley survived a second-half onslaught to record their first away of the season, with Begovic heading over in injury time after going upfield for Stoke's 13th corner of the afternoon.
