Ipswich take pole position as Preston crash

Ipswich moved to the top of the Championship with a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield as previous leaders Preston saw their unbeaten record shattered by a 4-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Darnell Furlong and Alex Mowatt put Albion two up before the interval at Deepdale and second-half goals from Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley completed Preston's shock loss.

With high-flying Leicester not in action until Sunday against Blackburn, Ipswich were able to pinch top spot to extend their superb start to the campaign after last season's promotion.

Delano Burgzorg gave Huddersfield the lead just after the hour, but Manchester United loanee Brandon Williams equalised for Ipswich in the closing stages.

Hull drew 1-1 with Plymouth to move level on points with fourth placed Sunderland.

Regan Slater scored Hull's equaliser after Adam Randell's opener.

Southampton beat Leeds 3-1 at St Mary's, sparked by Adam Armstrong's brilliant second-minute goal.

Will Smallbone tucked away the second goal and Armstrong's shot deflected in off Pascal Struijk four minutes later before the Leeds defender pulled one back.

Cardiff climbed to sixth with a 2-0 win over Rotherham, while Norwich beat Birmingham by the same score at Carrow Road

Stoke came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Bristol City.

Trailing to goals from Sam Bell and Nahki Wells in the first 15 minutes, Stoke hit back through Mehdi Leris, Sead Haksabanovic and a late Nathan Lowe strike.

Watford slumped to a 3-2 defeat against Middlesbrough at Vicarage Road.

Riley McGree's brace put the visitors in control and, although Vakoun Bayo and Wesley Hoedt drew the Hornets level, Josh Coburn scored Middlesbrough's winner.

Jamal Lowe's penalty and second-half strikes from Matt Grimes and Mykola Kukharevych helped Swansea to a 3-0 win at Millwall.

Ellis Simms bagged a second-half double as Coventry won 3-1 at lowly QPR.
