Dybala on bench as Juve return to scudetto duty

Argentine Paulo Dybala is set to be rested when Juventus host Empoli on Saturday for the first of five home games that Massimiliano Allegri hopes will lead to a record-equalling season.

With eight games remaining in the Serie A campaign, the Turin giants hold only a three-point lead on Napoli as they chase a first scudetto in 26 years.

But five of the champions' last eight fixtures are at Juventus Stadium and Allegri says there's only one way this Juve side can equal the club's "revered" record from 1935 of winning five consecutive league titles.

"There's nothing else for it but to win," Allegri told media on Friday.

"Now, we have a mini league of eight games ahead of us, and Napoli won't give an inch.

"We have a three-point cushion and we have to maintain that, or increase it if we can."

Eliminated from the Champions League last 16 by Bayern Munich two weeks ago, Juve can still aim for a second consecutive double as they face AC Milan in the final of the Italian Cup on May 21.

Despite Empoli's status as a difficult team to break down, Juventus should have no problems in spite of a number of absences.

Dybala is expected to be rested, and although defender Giorgio Chiellini and midfield orchestrator Claudio Marchisio could make their return from injury lay-off, Allegri is missing other defenders Andrea Barzagli and Leonardo Bonucci.

"Dybala will more than likely be rested," added Allegri. "Chiellini has recovered, the others are doing quite well but we'll see how they get on after training."

It means a likely start up front for Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata, although Allegri has other options in Italy striker Simone Zaza.

A win on Saturday would see Juventus stretch their unbeaten run this season to 21 games, a streak that already includes 19 victories and one draw.

Allegri warned: "Empoli could be dangerous because they will be coming here with nothing to lose."

But ahead of their first game since the international break, the 48-year-old warned: "We can't afford to take the wrong approach to this game.

"If we're going to win this revered and extraordinary fifth scudetto, we need determination and motivation during the entire run-in.

"We have to keep fully focused. This is where it gets difficult."
