Football: Juve warm up for Real with precious win at Parma

Juventus warmed up for their must-win Champions League clash against Real Madrid next week with a precious 1-0 win away to Parma in Italy's Serie A on Saturday.

Frenchman Paul Pogba's 77th minute winner secured Juve's third consecutive win, closing the gap to leaders Roma to two points and handing the visitors their first win at the Ennio Tardini since the 2010-2011 season.

Juventus dominated but were made to work for the spoils three days before hosting Real, 2-1 winners at the Santiago Bernabeu nearly three weeks ago, in a match they must win to relaunch their Group B campaign.

Sitting seven points adrift of group leaders Real and two behind Galatasaray with three games remaining, it was clear Conte's eye was already on Tuesday's task in Turin.

The Juve coach rested midfielder Andrea Pirlo before the veteran midfielder replaced Claudio Marchisio in the second half, when strikers Carlos Tevez and Sebastian Giovinco were replaced by Fabio Quagliarella and Fernando Llorente respectively.

Juve enjoyed the early domination but Tevez could only bundle a first-time shot into the arms of Parma 'keeper Antonio Mirante from Giovinco's backheel on the quarter hour.

On 33 minutes Tevez did well to hold off two defenders to lay off for Arturo Vidal, but the Chilean's daisycutter from 25 metres was drilled just wide of Mirante's upright.

Although Jonathan Biabany was a threat for the Juve defence, Parma created few real chances. At the other end, meanwhile, Juve struggled to carve open the hosts' defence.

Conte replaced Marchisio with Pirlo 17 minutes after the restart and minutes later Tevez, virtually unmarked, missed perhaps the best chance of the match when he sent Simone Padoin's cut-back from the right straight at Mirante.

With 15 minutes remaining Conte made an inspired substitution when Spain forward Llorente and Quagliarella entered the fray.

Quagliarella, on virtually his first touch, shook off his marker on the edge of the area to lob Mirante and although his effort came off post and bar, Pogba was on hand to fire home the rebound as the 'keeper looked on.

Juve survived a scare two minutes from the whistle when Amauri chased the ball down while in a scoring position but 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon was out quickly to block.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina will aim to make up for their 2-1 midweek defeat at home to Napoli when they visit AC Milan later Saturday, when Napoli host at home to struggling Catania..

Leaders Roma are away to Torino on Sunday when Rudi Garcia's men will look to stretch their all-time league record of 10 opening-season wins to 11 to restore their five-point lead over Napoli and Juventus.

If successful, Roma will equal the best start to a season in one of the continent's major leagues - a record currently held by Premier League side Tottenham.
